The planetary jewelry designs shown above were designed to capture some essence of each of the planets and to make the power of Vedic planetary gems available to a wide market. Each planet has a piece of finished fine jewelry that retails for substantially less than a thousand dollars and these designs are interchangeable with the different planetary gems. For the Moon and Mars I am offering the Primary Gem and for the other planets I am offering a recognized Secondary Gem in the recommended larger sizes and increased weights, which increases the power of the gem. If you can afford the Primary Gem, that of course would be ideal. In the case of Venus and the Sun, Diamonds and Rubies may not be affordable for many of us. The Secondary Gem of White Sapphire (or Colorless Sapphire) is used more frequently in the Vedic community than the Primary Gem of Venus, which is Diamond. It is generally accepted that these Colorless Sapphires do have power, so it would follow that other Secondary Gems could be effective as well. I advise my clients to follow their intuition as well as their practical financial considerations in their choice of gemstone. I do believe that a good, high quality Secondary Gem may be better than nothing and at these prices, experimentation with Secondary Gems is possible. And if your birth chart is one where gem use may assist in material matters, your Secondary Gem may be a powerful tool to assist in your manifesting the finances to procure a Primary Gem!

Although it is common knowledge amongst students of the Vedas that our gems must be touching the skin to be effective, I often see so-called Vedic astrological jewelry where the gem is not set in a way where it will be in contact with the skin. I would propose that those who teach that it is acceptable for the gem to not touch the skin, have adopted this teaching as it requires custom design and a jeweler and goldsmith who are willing to do some unusual and innovative work, which sometimes put the safety and integrity of the gemstone at risk. In short, it's a lot easier to set your gem in a standard mounting, with the gem not in contact with the skin. We're after power and different levels of healing, protection and enhancement here so I believe it is important to follow the instructions from the Vedic sources and self realized beings whose teachings insist on the gem being in contact with the skin. My common sense would say that any gem within our auric space would affect us, yet I must defer to the Vedas and self realized beings such as Sri Yukteswar, Paramahansa Yogananda's guru, and therefore I set all gems that I sell so that they will touch your skin.

Another thing that I often see in so-called Vedic astrological jewelry are combinations of gems that are completely inappropriate based on the planets compatibility or lack thereof. Some combinations that should never be worn would include Rubies and Diamonds, Pearls and Diamonds, Yellow Sapphires and Diamonds, Pearls and Sapphires, etc. Small Diamonds as accents are great for DeBeers and generally not appropriate for our uses. If Diamonds are supportive for your chart, they would most likely work in combinations with Emeralds and Blue Sapphires.

Because of our intention to increase or strengthen the energy of one of the planets in our birthcharts, you generally will find one single large gem set in a Vedic planetary gemstone ring or pendant. This eliminates the majority of standard jewelry designs as accent diamonds or small stones are prevalent. The need for our gems to touch the skin brings in many design requirements and limitations when compared to traditional jewelry. As we are wearing our gems 24/7 as rings which take a lot of wear and tear, I generally suggest bezel setting our gems versus prong setting. This bezel is a lip of metal completely surrounding your gem which serves to protect the gem from some knocks and holds the gem most securely versus a prong, which can be caught and pulled allowing the gem to be lost from the setting.
